The PIR sensor is the most common used device for detecting motion.More specifically, the sensor detects IR radiation on the basis of the characteristics that the polarization of pyroelectric material changes with temperature. It also includes compensation for preventing false readings due to temperature variation. These sensors can be found in a wide range of applications such as security systems, burglar alarms, visitor acknowledgement, light switch control, and 'smart' toys. You can simply connect them to a digital pin on your favorite microcontroller board (e.g., Arduino) or single-board computer (e.g., Raspberry Pi), and get started detecting motion around them!
